Splendid Day

Splendid Day is staffed by a certified teacher and an assistant teacher. Parent participation is not required. It is also open to non-co-op members, including kindergartners. Children may enroll on a daily, weekly, or drop-in basis. A maximum of twelve children can be accommodated.

Splendid Day is an afternoon enrichment program that focuses on specific curriculum areas. Our Spring program features a different theme each day:

• On Mondays, children are focusing on math. We will work on a “treasure box” project that will allow the children interesting ways to look at patterns and Venn diagrams.
• On Tuesdays, Drama is the theme for the day.  Children will work together to make a play out of a book of their choice.
• Wednesdays are Music days.  One Wednesday a month we will attend free lunchtime concerts hosted by the church.  (Please feel free to join us!) We will also explore different kinds of musical instruments and compose music with our own music cards.
• Thursdays are for Art.  Students will study and experience one artist a week, and work to recreate that artist’s work.  This semester we are focusing on children’s book illustrators.
• Fridays are our messy Science days.  We will make marvelous messy mixtures with a variety of fun and unusual materials.

Families must provide lunch, including a drink, and a snack to be eaten later in the afternoon. State law requires a quiet time be provided each day for those children who spend in excess of four hours at the school. For this time, your child must have his or her own sleeping bag and a pillow case in which to store it. Pine Grove will provide a mat to lie on. Children who fall asleep are allowed to sleep until they awaken on their own.
